Game Over, Man! Game Over!

July Update

I've finally finished my first pass of storyboards for the first presentation for the ACMI / Dreamworks project. So pooped! Here are the last rough character concepts. After the  presentation, Im going to go back and do some more concepts design, seeing as time wont be spent as much on storyboards...I hope.
This is what I stare at when I occasionally look up from my screen.
Last weekend at Oz Comic Con as Wonder Woman and Ellen Ripley.

Character Concepts & Psycho Butts Stuff

Here are some rough character designs I had to do for my ACMI Dreamworks Designing Dreams project. I just had to get something down so that I had reference for my storyboards, which im currently working on. There are a few more characters than this but these are the main dudes. I'll do more character & location concept work after the first board presentation.

Some of my designs are in some promos for The Day My Butt Went Psycho. Right now it's minimal as my character designs haven't aired yet, so here is a milkshake cups, some cheerleaders & a jetski.

June Update

I may be distracted by the 2014 World Cup at the moment but that doesn't stop me from doing some work. Here are some illustrations from my personal children's book which I have been working on since like forever.

May Update

Ever found a plumber in your toilet?! See how this one
got stuck there this Saturday, 7.30am on GO!
This Saturday's The Day My Butt Went Psycho episode includes a character called The Plumberbutt, who I had a hand in designing. After this episode, I have more character designs popping up here and there, but this guy and a poodle named Princess are my first in the series.
I'm really excited to finally see a character Ive designed come to life on an airing animated television series.

Good work, team Studio Moshi and Nelvana!

Other good news (well not good news for my friend who had to drop out), but I got a placement in the Designing Dreams Dreamworks project with ACMI after a spot became vacant. I was next in line to be chosen as I was a finalist. So now I have to brainstorm an idea for a short film and eventually I get to pitch/discuss it with the creatives at Dreamworks. I unfortunately missed out on some of the earlier perks (free talks, lunches etc) but its all good!

Ive also started colouring my children's book and there is still some things going on with my Cartoon Network pilot.

Happy Easter!

I saw a blog post featuring those horrible vintage Easter bunny costumes with scared children and I just had to draw my favourite of the bunch...hope you all have a nice Easter and find lots of chocolate eggs.

Latest Scribbles

A long time ago, far, far away...well just a few years ago...I did a project where I did a bunch of concepts for a penguin design, just a exercise for myself. Recently for my Dreamworks workshop application, I wanted to do something new, so I thought I would just do some more designs for my Deep Sea Bleached Penguin.
Here are some drawings from the original design.

What's Going On?

I'm just about finished my scribbles for my children's book but I have been diverted for a moment as I am putting together my application for the ACMI (Australian Centre of Moving Image) Dreamwork's Designing Dreams Studio Workshop. I'm applying as a designer amongst the animators and the trickiest part is the one minute video of yourself you have to submit...here I am disappointed at my billionth take.

Book Update...

Here are some more snippets of the latest scribbles for my children's book. I'm hoping to get the rest done over the next couple of weeks. I'll be looking over those scribbles and maybe re-working some stuff, adding things...then it will be onto the layout, colour thumbnails and colour!

Lights, Colours, Ninjas!

Whoo hoo! I received a copy of Lights, Colours, Ninjas! today, the Pearson educational comic book that I illustrated at the end of the 2013, its about physics and light and stuff.
Turned out quite nice. Its official, Im a comic book artist...sort of.

Also in the new year I spotted The Monster Maintenance Manual on a bookshop shelf (three years after it's release) at a discounted price next to Grumpy Cat.

Merry Christmas Update

This year has been busy but much more structured than 2012 and lots of fun. As well as working on the animated series The Day My Butt Went Psycho and working on an educational comic for Pearson, I have been to San Diego Comic Con, visited Dreamworks, Cartoon Network and Walt Disney Studios, had lots of fun costuming with my friends and finally started illustrating my children's book I wrote waaaay back in 2011. Unfortunately I was suffering from a back problem brought on by sitting down too much and working into the evening...so I had to pull back on my freelance and even my own drawing in my spare time.

Here is a preview of some of the book sketches I have done. I'm looking forward to colouring them all. Until then, see you next year!

Goal Achieved! Level Up!

This is how you watch a cartoon.
This weekend was special for the peeps at Melbourne based Studio Moshi and personally for me it was pretty important too. Eight years ago I finished my degree at uni, where I studied traditional animation. I left with a goal to one day work on an animation series and if I was lucky enough  I'd get to see my name in the credits.

On Saturday it finally happened, my name in the credits on TV as a designer for the Australian/Canadian animated series: The Day My Butt Went Psycho.

Well done to Andrew Davies who has worked hard for the last two years to get this project up and running here in Australia. I remember working on it two years ago for like a day, when the character design was first being developed and I had a go at a background concept...so now its fantastic to be working on the actual series.

I have finally achieved my original goal, congratulations Moshi crew.
LEVEL UP!
Deuce and the rare double mouth frame.
