My Photo
I am an Australian (Melbourne based) producer, art director and illustrator working in concept art, character design and environments. I have just finished producing a pilot for Cartoon Network/Snaptoons and have eight years experience across animation, children's books, phone applications, editorial, education, web and character animation (traditionally trained). Sometimes I'll appear in TV commercials and in the background of a TV show...and occasionally I dress up for conventions as Wonder Woman, Rogue or Lara Croft just for fun!

Guinness World Record Attempt

I'm top left, grinning like a moron.
IT'S OFFICIAL! I'm part of The Guinness Book of Records!
Last year me & some friends took part in the CosGame 2012 - Largest Crowd Dressed As Video Game Characters at Melbourne's Federation Square & we just got word that were successful!

"The current record for "Largest Crowd dressed as video games characters" is 470 participants and was achieved by The Academy of Interactive Entertainment (Australia) in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 5th May 2012."

You can vote for the "Guinness Fan Choice Record of the Week" here AND check out the youtube video here, highlights from the day here.

Thanks to Mark Libman & AIE Melbourne for organising it all...can't wait to get my official certificate!

30 Day Drawing Challenge back soon...

Ive had to pause on my 30 day drawing challenge due to having a birthday weekend with my boyfriend (we turned 32...old!) and the week nights after work being filled with stuff away from home and packing up to move. I'll be back with Day 5 very soon, I promise! This post will be replaced with a scribble.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 4 : A Famous Character Had They Aged : He-Man

Day 4: He-man/Prince Adam from Masters Of The Universe (1987)

One of my most vivid memories of going to the cinema as a kid was to see MOTU with Dolph Lundgren...I liked it back then, but now the movie poster is better than the film. I'm curious to see what the new film will end up like...and WHO will play He-Man?!

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 3 : Scary Movie : Scream

Day 3: Scream (1996)

This was THE horror film from my teen years, therefore it is one of my favourites. The start is so memorable and just hits you in the face with the horror that is Ghostface. Downside is this lead to the inspiration of endless Scary Movie films.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 2 : Super Minimalist Movie Poster : Watership Down

Day 2: Watership Down (1978)

One of favourite top five animated films.

My mum taped this on VHS and always says she never erased it because she knew that as I re-watched it I would understand and enjoy it more. She was right. As a little kid I saw rabbits on an adventure with weird things going on, then when I was older I understood the actual plot more and more.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 1 : Animated Movie : The Emperor's New Groove

I have been meaning to do one of these 30 day drawing challenges for a while, but never had the time. Since I am working full time, it's the perfect way to get me drawing for a few hours after work everyday...and how can I refuse a movie version (created by the very cool & talented illustrator Jeff Victor).

Here is my Day 1 : The Emperor's New Groove (2000)

By the way, I had to paint this twice. The first time I had almost finished and my computer crashed on my save, corrupting the file.

Supanova 2013

This weekend I headed to Supanova 2013 in Melbourne as Wonder Woman and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (film version) with Ben as Captain Cold, Marta as Batgirl and Jenn as the new video game Lara Croft.

I had a great time, talked to some wonderful cosplayers, shook hands and spoke to David Hasselhoff (he also high-kicked and play punched towards me), asked Eliza Dushku (Faith of Buffy) a question and she said I was bad-ass in my Tomb Raider gear AND talked to Ray Park (Darth Maul) who yet again was a really nice guy. Last time I chatted to him was back in 2005.

BTW, David Hasselhoff is an awesome speaker! He is very entertaining and spends so much time with everyone, hard working dude!

Also, Ray Park STILL has the Darth Maul double lightsaber moves!

 Free Avengers and X-Men pinball!

News!

I've started a new educational book job for Pearson Books Australia, which is very exciting as I haven't illustrated a book since late 2010! I had an offer last year but I just wasn't free because of the pilot. This will run up till my trip to L.A. where I'm heading for Comic Con (whoo!)

Unfortunately I didn't get a really cool job, which was to create character art for a US channel TV series' web game, a show I'm a huge fan of. The San Fransisco agency who pitched my work to the network agency, found my fan art on the net and tracked me down...so at least they now know I exist (yay internet!) But the network decided to go with the other style pitched (along with mine).

Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

I'm also trying to finish off updating my NEW website and folio...also going to send that off to some local agents for future opportunities.

Here is a sketch I'm working on for the Comic-Con 2013 Souvenir Book...need to finish it and submit it soon!

Update! Here is my finished entry...I took the "Uno!" away in case I get disqualified for copyright of other companies.

I'm currently working on...

...Zack and Deuce or if you are in Australia, The Day My Butt Went Psycho
I've just started working on this production and will be till mid next year as part of the design team.
Zack and Deuce follows the story of a boy named Zack, and his best friend Deuce, who is actually his newly detached posterior.
Read more about it here.

*this isn't my artwork*

Party on, Garth! Party on, Wayne!

Late night scribble...I'm going to use this drawing as a test for my new illustrator skills. Haven't seen this movie for a while, needs a re-watch.

500 grams of prunes please...

Ive finally painted these shopping ladies...and I actually eat prunes, they are really tasty. Not just for old people.

Easter Bilby

I did a quick sketch the other day and really want to colour it before I have to work over the Easter break weekend. Happy Easter to everyone and enjoy your holidays if you are some of the lucky ones.

By the way, a Bilby for those outside of Australia, is an endangered desert-dwelling marsupial which has become the Australian version of the Easter bunny. People are encouraged to purchase chocolate Bilbies to help raise awareness and funds as there are only about 600 or so left in the wild.

The other day during a work meeting I tried to draw Homer and Bart off the top of my head...hahaha

Kermit Supports VFX Artists

This week I did some background extra work on the series Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries and in front of a green screen. Yep, it's used in almost everything. Those of us in the animation industry know how the VFX artists are feeling, especially ex-employees of Australian studio Ettamogah, which left a lot of animators and artists out of pocket and bitter.

After seeing Steve Lambe's lovely Hulk take on the green screen Facebook support square, I thought Id give mine a twist too.

Bugging The Baby Elephant

There were hundreds of these orange bugs taking off from the bushes in front of the baby Elephant enclosure at Melbourne Zoo...I'm pretty sure if he was where I were standing, he'd be a little freaked out.

Moi

I'm redesigning my website so that it's compatible for tablets, ipads & phones...here is my new personal illustration for the main page (minus colour background).
My flash website doesn't really work anymore & I need to go back to basics...no more pretty roll over buttons with falling leaves (sad face).
Gotta keep up with the times!

Vial of Youth To Be Screened At ASIFA Egypt

I found out this morning that my 2005 graduate short film Vial of Youth is going to be screened at the ASIFA Egypt (in Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the major library in Africa on the shore of the Mediterranean). Its part of The Best of 25 Years, A retrospective of graduate films from the Griffith University, Griffith Film School Bachelor of Animation program.

If you want to check out the event details on Facebook, check out this link

If you would like to watch the film on it's own blog, check it out here...there are also some old bits of artwork and photos.

Wonder Woman Welcomes 2013

First drawings for 2013 & I decided to do something that would ease me into it; good old Wonder Woman.
I've done the usual action pose and another version where I have given Diana a hip hop vibe...my new sketch project could be Hip Hop Heroines?
I'm hoping to do much more drawing this year & work on my projects (a children's book & a plushies project) that I had to put on pause due to the pilot.

Maik bought me a fancy Samsung Note for Christmas, so I'm going to take that out & try some life drawing. I'm going to be horribly rusty, but that's why I need to go do it. I also want to go to the zoo soon to do some animal sketching with it.

Christmas Gifts From John K

Last year I donated some money to John Kricfalusi's (John K) Kickstarter campaign "Cans Without Labels". The first part of my gifts came in the mail this week and it was pretty exciting to get some signed doodles of Ren and Stimpy, Yosemite Sam and George Liquor. I also love my Sody Pop and Jimmy the Idiot Boy pencil toppers and Spumco club membership...I feel like I'm 12 years old!

Here are some photos of some of the items I received.

Thanks John!

Pilot FINISHED!

Well, it's official! I've finished my pilot for Snaptoons/Cartoon Network Asia. It was a long year but it also went by so fast...I pretty much became a zombie for the majority of the time, hunched in front of my computer. Eighteen hour days and endless emails is definitely a way to add on a couple of years to your face, ruin your core and posture and become a hermit.

But it is finished and I couldn't have done it without the work of my wonderful boyfriend, Maik, who pretty much worked on this pilot as much as I did. Thank you to all the peeps at CN, the amazing Canadian voice actors, the animation team that came on board to slug it out at Bigkidz and everyone who helped in pre-production and post. Thanks to my mum and dad for the ongoing support of what I do for a living AND my friends and industry pals for their words of support all year.

I wish I could show you it, but for now its just an internal pilot...so fingers crossed that one day in the future it becomes something more.

In the meantime, here are some of the backgrounds I worked on...I'm pleased with what I pumped out in the amount of time I had, whilst I directed the animation and did a hundred other tasks.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and prosperous new year. I'll be taking a whole month off to kick start myself back into gear (sun, beach, exercise, reading and a new website) before starting work on a new Canadian animated series, which I'm really looking forward to.

Cheers!
